Jungle Juice to Promote Reusable Straws

Jungle Juice—the fresh smoothie and juice bar with two Hoboken locations—has announced that it will begin offering reusable straws in an effort to reduce plastic pollution. Customers will be encouraged to purchase the reusable straws and use them indefinitely, rather than taking disposable ones.

“One-time-use straws are not biodegradable and remain on earth forever,” the family-owned company said in a statement. “Single-use plastic straws cause our oceans to be polluted, and cause harm to marine animals and birds. In order to reduce our carbon footprint we need to reduce our plastic waste.”

The menu at Jungle Juice consists of health-conscious smoothies that use nonfat yogurt, a wide variety of vegetable juices, organic wheatgrass shots, milkshakes with skim milk, and acai bowls. Jungle Juice uses only fresh produce and all-natural ingredients. The goal is to promote a healthy lifestyle, the company says, and the effort to reduce plastic waste reflects that mission on a larger scale. Around 8 million tons of plastic waste are created every year, and Americans use 500 million plastic straws every day.
